"Wise Home Building Guide"
The Wise Home Building Guide was written especially for consumers that are having a home built for the first time. The Guide is not a book to study, but rather it is a concise step-by-step guide to walk you through your role in the building process from "concept to completion." The Guide is packed with useful information, charts, checklists, and aids to educate you about the home building process. It not only will prepare you to be successful, but it will save you time, money and headaches. See the Table of Contents for a summary of the main items found in the Guide.
The Wise Home Building Guide contains a "Master Check Sheet" for use on your building project. This Master Checklist will keep you organized; as you go through the process you simply check-off each step as you complete it. Associated with each "check point" is a page reference that helps you to easily locate the related information explaining exactly what you are to do when, why and how. (No stories or tales, just concise information).

Family of Home Building Guide Books
If you are looking for sound, practical advice for your home building project you have come to the right place. Wise Home Building is part of a family of websites that contain advice for consumers building new homes. Here are the buildng guides we offer:
Wise Home Buiding Guide - This new home construction guide was written especially for first time home building projects. It assumes that a consumer knows nothing about the home building process and walks through each step of the process, explaining what needs to be done at each step. It contains an assortment of tools and aids, including a 60+ page glossary, description of home styles, pictures of different types of ceiling and windows, and it contains specification and a sample contract. Suited for both custom home projects as well as tract or production home (model home approach) projects. Wise Home Building was written by a builder with more than 35 year of construction industry experience.
Home Building Pitfalls - The Pitfalls book was the first and remains the only book written about production or tract home building that describes the process from the inside out. In other words, it describes the process from the builder's perspective and tells you what is going on through every step of the process. It begins by telling you how you are sized up by the sales people from the minute you walk in the door, what sales techniques they use, including a description of the "model home trap" and it takes you all the way through the process up to and including moving into our new home. Because it was written by an industry insider from one of the nations largest tract or production home builders, it arms you with the information you need to avoid the pitfalls of the process and it saves you money and saves you from plenty of headaches that you would have otherwise unwittingly subjected yourself to. It is a one-of-a kind Guide that you must have if you are buying a home from a tract builder such as Hovnanian, Toll Brothers, Centex, KB Homes, Lennar, Pulte, Beazer, Ryland or any of the other big boys.
House Building Guide - The House Buiding Guide was written for consumers building a custom home. While similar to Wise Home Building, it has a much stronger focus on money savings and convenience tips. While there is some overlap with Wise Home Building the two are good companion books, and augment each other. The Guide contains sample specifications, an example contract, lot/land checklist, Builder's checklist and interview Guide, a punch list, timelines, healthy house building tips, and other useful tools. More than 8000 copies of the House Buiding Guide have been sold throughout the U.S. and Canada.
